| In October 1992, Narayani Amma declared to the devotees and others that a Swayambu Vigraha (self-emanating statue) of Narayani would manifest from the earth on a particular day. The event was well advertised and a great gathering assembled around the marked place. Dignitaries, judges from the Madras High Court and members of the Tamil Nadu state legislature were among those present. At the appointed time when Narayani Amma asked the justices, police, and others to place their hands into the Yajña (ritual fire) pit, out came the Swayambu statue from the raw earth into the combined hands of the dignitaries and to the surprise of all the assembled people, who made a tumultuous uproar.
A few months later, a swayambu metal Vigraha, made of metal , emerged out of a pail of water mixed with tumeric. This occurred in a devotee's home in the presence of Amma. The metal idol (photographed to the left) is carried by Amma wherever She goes. Amma conducts daily pujas (sacred ceremonies) with the statue of Narayani, in honour of the Divine Being that occupies it.
Today, one of Amma's siddhis (powers) is to manifest vibhuti (sacred ash) and small murtis (statues) of dieties from the palm of Her hand. Many people have witnessed these acts. |
